Lockleaze Community Climate Action Plan

We created the plan as part of the Bristol Community Climate Action Project, funded by the National Lottery Climate Action Fund and coordinated by Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership. The programme is led by Bristol organisations representing communities experiencing multiple deprivation who have traditionally been excluded from the climate change debate and responses to it. We were pleased to be in the first cohort to produce plans, along with friends Ashley Community & Housing Ltd, Ambition Lawrence Weston, Bristol Disability Equality Forum, Eastside Community Trust, and Heart of BS13. Seventeen communities have now produced climate action plans, representing more and more areas across the city as well as Bristol’s older people, Disabled community and cricket fans!

While the Community Climate Action Plan covers seven climate themes, the National Lottery funded each partner to develop one strand into a three-year project. We chose actions for nature, as Lockleaze really cares about its wildlife and green spaces, and we received lots of comments about threats from housing development and the desire to support nature in our own homes and gardens. The project has been a great success, involving hundreds of people and improving 12,000+ m2 of land for nature.
