Six years ago, we were lucky enough to win funding from the Nation Lottery Communities fund to become part of Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership’s Community Climate Action project. We supported our community to make Lockleaze’s very own Community Climate Action plan, and from this grew our wonderful Really Wild Lockleaze project.
This fair, bold, and community-led climate and nature action is expanding across the West of England. Backed by the National Lottery Community Fund, six new organisations have joined Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership’s Community Climate & Nature Action Project.
A huge congratulations to Bath MIND, Clevedon YMCA, Hambrook Sports Club, Pill Community Foundation, South Gloucestershire Race Equality Network, and Twerton & Whiteway Community Network. Each organisation will receive £30,000 funding, alongside workshops, peer mentoring, and resources to co-develop a climate and nature action plan – with, by, and for the people they serve. This is key to building a region that is not only greener, but fairer.
This next project phase comes after much success in Bristol – where 17 communities (including Lockleaze!) have already benefited from the programme, leading to the creation of local jobs, improved green spaces, skills training programmes, carbon savings, and more.
We are still part of this project, acting as advocates for community-led climate and nature action across the region, and we are excited to be meeting these new partners soon, and sharing our experience with them.
