The Lockleaze Youth Climate Action Group met back up in September for our second year. This time our young people are setting their sights on tackling litter and fly tipping— two pressing issues that threaten the beauty and safety of our neighbourhood. Their focus will be on finding innovative ways to reduce waste and keep Lockleaze clean.
The young members have already been brainstorming some fantastic ideas.
One of the most imaginative discussions was about “disco bins”—bright, eye-catching
recycling and waste bins that could turn waste disposal into a fun and engaging activity.
Recently, the group went on a litter walk around Lockleaze to spot the worst trouble spots for rubbish. The results were shocking ! This inspired the young people and motivated them to find more effective solutions.
The young people decided to hold a silent disco litter pick- a fun and innovative way to
combine activity with community clean-up. Over 50 people took part in this unique event, dancing along with headphones while collecting litter across different parts of Lockleaze.
Currently, the young people are working alongside a filmmaker from Watershed to develop a film around the issue of litter. They’ve been learning how to storyboard for film, exploring different types of shots, lighting techniques, and storytelling methods. There’s an exciting day of filming planned soon, and the final film will be released in 2027. WATCH THIS SPACE!
A massive thank you to Ovo foundation for your continued support and investment in our Lockleaze Youth Climate Action Group- a positive partnership project.
