And That’s a Wrap- Lockleaze Youth Climate Action Group.

What a fantastic finish to an amazing project.
Lockleaze Youth Climate Action proudly presented to our community not 1
but 5 powerful films, calling all to take climate action at our recent Lockleaze
Climate and Nature Festival.

Over 80 residents watched the films and the feedback was fantastic. Residents were really impressed with the group’s knowledge and passion.

“Fantastic to see how aware young people are about their environment”
“Really clever how films can make you think of whether your actions are the problem or solution”

We asked how watching the films help you to take climate action and the
response was really positive.

“I’m going to join my local litter pick this weekend as the film shows it really
helps”

“I’m going to really focus on not buying any more plastic and reusing what I
have”

“The real cost of clearing up rubbish is horrendous- we can all do our bit. I’m going to report all the fly tipping I see”

The group also planned and delivered free workshops for the community to create amazing bee and flower costumes and accessories for the parade and they were spectacular.

Despite the rain over 60 residents of all ages joined in to call attention to the importance and benefits of planting wildflowers to feed the bees. We want to thank all residents who have encouraged and supported this talented group of young people.

Whether you attended last year’s performances of Is This Our Future, collected a free costume or added your concerns to the Web Of Woe at their Halloween event, joined the Silent Disco litter pick, attended the premier of Treasure? The Collection at the Watershed or attended one of the many free workshops- your support makes all the difference.

The group have met and worked with many organisations- Watershed, UWE, Willbee Films, Severnside Community Rail Partnership and GWR Ambassadors- benefiting from connections and learning new skills that will help them as they progress through their career journey.

A massive shout out and thank you to local residents Jody Cook and Abi Spence of Unfold Community Arts, our dynamic duo who championed the young people and facilitated the project over the last 2 years.

Finally thank you to all the young people who have been involved- your community is proud of you and your work has helped residents to change their behaviour and take more climate action. You have made a difference to your community.

This comment was left by one resident after viewing all 5 films at the festival.
‘The future is in safe hands!’

Missed out? You can check out the films here. They are also currently being shown at Horfield Health Centre, on the Big Screen at Millennium Square and have been shown at local schools during assembly. We have also submitted them to be included on the Bristol Climate Stories website.
