Wellbeing Walks- Summer Update

Wellbeing walks are gentle paced walks on fairly level and easy surfaces for about 1.5 hours. We always go at the pace of the slowest walker and for as long as everyone is comfortable.

In hot weather we aim for cool shade, an earlier start and sometimes shorter walks. We usually start at 10am at the Hub on Gainsborough Square, but on very hot days we may start at 9am- we let everyone know by email and on our Facebook page.

On recent walks we have stayed in Stoke Park so that we have plenty of shade available. As well as our learning about the changing landscape through the year we have enjoyed other activities like spotting butterflies and identifying them, sitting for a short mindfulness practice or taking the time to forest bathe.

We would love to have more people join us. If you would like a walk as a break from being at home, a chance to meet new people, or to share your enjoyment of walking or Stoke Park – turn up to the next one. You can also contact Gail at gail@lockleazent.co.uk 0117 914 1129- happy to discuss any access needs you have and how we can include you.

Please do remember to dress for the weather – currently that’s a hat (or an umbrella) to keep cool, light clothing, apply sunscreen, bring water and wear shoes that are firmly attached to your feet (eg not flipflops) to stay safe.

*Forest bathing – or shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese practice of therapeutic relaxation that involves immersing yourself in nature through your senses.  By mindfully breathing and observing the outdoors, you can reduce the stress hormone cortisol, lower blood pressure, and boost your immune system.
