Terrific Trees of Stoke Park

Stoke Park Project
A collaboration project with Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, Bristol City Council and
Steve England Outdoor Learning.
We are working together to promote community conversations about your heritage
conservation priorities and which access improvements are needed for Stoke Park.

What a difference having the sun shining made on our Terrific Trees event last Wednesday!

Everyone was extra cheerful and upbeat as we explored Stoke Park together for our 20th event.

We started the walk testing our knowledge with a quick ‘guess the tree you can see quiz’ and then had a lot of fun visiting some of the amazing and most notable trees.

We discovered some of the practical uses of each of the trees, and how they are beneficial to wildlife too.

Thank you for such an enjoyable walk-really impressed with the variety of trees and what they are used for’

We even had a demonstration and tried using different types of wood for fire starting and how useful pine fatwood is-especially in wet weather.

We also learnt about how to make a thumb stick and Steve showed a fun use for ivy by weaving a fish and line.

I loved hearing how you make a thumb stick’

We bumped into our Rangers who shared a bit about the park management plan and then we visited different parts of the woodland to see the difference coppicing made.

It was nice to meet the Rangers-there’s so many different things to find out about-thank you for a lovely morning.

Throughout the event we discussed the historical heritage features we passed and spoke about the importance of feedback and how it’s already bringing about change.
