Men’s Wild Wellbeing in Stoke Park

A collaboration with Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, Bristol City Council and Steve England Outdoor Learning.

We are working together to promote community conversations about your heritage conservation priorities and which access improvements are needed for Stoke Park.

Thank you to all the residents who joined us for the Mens Wild Wellbeing event this weekend. This was our 12th event in this exciting free programme and the final one this year.

We explored the woods together, learning about the wildlife, the trees and their many uses and some of the historical features of this part of Stoke Park.
We then built fires together using different methods to see which was the most effective and enjoyed cooking some foraged foods together.

nine men in coats, hats and boots stand in a curve facing the camera. they are smiling and all hold waist-height thumbsticks

For our mindful activity we each foraged for a suitable branch, with guidance from Steve, and then all made thumb sticks, which turned out really well. Everyone enjoyed learning the skill of whittling around the fire, and went home relaxed and a bit muddy.

“There needs to be more opportunities for men to get together, I knew no one here yet had a really good time, learnt new things and went home happier than I’ve been for a long time.”
“I learnt to whittle- always wanted to and I’m so chuffed with my thumb stick”
“This was a brilliant afternoon-thank you!”

As usual we finished the afternoon with a discussion about the wider project and how the events and surveys are supporting people to join the conversation to capture your
priorities. Please don’t forget to complete your feedback.
