History of Purdown- Not Just Goats!

A collaboration with Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, Bristol City Council and Steve England Outdoor Learning.

We are working together to promote community conversations about your heritage conservation priorities and which access improvements are needed for Stoke Park.

Thank you to all the residents who ignored the light rain and joined us for another History of Purdown event.
This was our 11th event in this exciting free programme and after an overcast start the sun came out for this Less Walk More Talk event.
This walk made use of the accessible path and avoided any steep inclines or steps, following a shorter route.

We took our time exploring and enjoyed learning about some of the different historic features around this side of the park, including the tombs of Horatii, Sir Johns lane and wall, the Roman well, the bomb crater and the gun battery. During our walk Steve also shared his knowledge of some of the historic houses in and around
the park and the people who lived there and their connection to Stoke Park, Beech House, Heath House and Elm Tree Farm

“Thank you, I’m so glad I came- I never knew anything about the gun battery, just the goats”
“I learnt a lot this morning- there’s so much to find out. A features map would be useful”
“This project is a great idea. We really enjoyed the informative walk, thank you Steve and Maria”

Thank you for attending, it was a pleasure to spend the morning together-please don’t forget to complete your feedback.

Please watch this space for the dates for further walks and events which will be released in January.
