A collaboration with Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, Bristol City Council and Steve England Outdoor Learning.

We are working together to promote community conversations about your heritage conservation priorities and which access improvements are needed for Stoke Park.

Thank you to the 35 residents who joined us for the first of our History of Purdown walk on the weekend.

This was our 6th event in this exciting free programme and it really was a beautiful morning.

We explored the Purdown section of the park learning about the history and its many uses over the years. Steve brought the past to life and we followed in the footsteps of generations of visitors, learning together along the way.

All of the regular park users were surprised to learn they had been walking past a bomb crater without realising it and none of the group had ever noticed the Heath field cart pond or the remains of the vehicle storage sheds that were used during the war. We also visited the gun battery placement and learnt more about the battalion who were stationed there and the various uses over the years including today’s: home for the popular Street Goats who sustainably graze the area.

“It really was an enjoyable walk jammed packed with facts!”

“I’ve walked past this so many times and never saw it properly before today”

“What a great way to get people together and start them talking- we should all share our views”

“We had a great time- thank you Steve and Maria”
