Buzzing in Spring 2026

Angela, who runs Sunday Buzz Community Garden sessions, has written this blog about her experience so far. Join her every Sunday 1pm – 3pm, or Hannah every Thursday 10am – 12pm.

Haiku:

Seeds and hands combine

Neighbours meet where soil is rich,

Food and friendship grow.

We’ve started something small at the Buzz community garden.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had three sessions. The first one, it rained and no one came. The second, a 14-year-old joined in and an older volunteer stopped by for a chat. The third, that same young person came back, and it was just us again, quietly getting on with it.

It might not look like much yet, but it’s a start.

Between us, we’ve planted apple trees, sown seeds, put in potatoes, cleared bits of the space, and even made “seed snails” out of recycled materials. Little by little, it’s beginning to take shape.

We’re not experts. We’re just figuring it out as we go.

But there’s something good about being there, even when it’s quiet. Getting your hands in the soil, being outside, having a chat if someone passes by. It’s simple, but it matters. Studies say gardening can lift your mood and reduce stress, but honestly, you can feel that without needing to read it anywhere.

Seed Champions

One idea I’ll like to try is Seed Champions.

If you’ve got a windowsill, you can help. We’ll share some seeds, and you can grow them at home until they’re strong enough to come out into the garden. No big commitment, just a small way to be part of it. Just come along on Thursday or Sunday, and we’ll have a chat about it.

Not just gardening

You don’t have to be “into gardening” to come along.

You can just:

  • stop by for a chat
  • sit for a bit
  • join us for a hot drink and get some fresh air
  • meet a couple of neighbours

It’s as much about having a space to be as it is about growing things.

If you’re thinking about it…

If you’ve been meaning to get out a bit more, or meet people locally, or just try something different, this is your sign.

Come along. Even if it’s just for ten minutes.

We’ll be there.
