August at Buzz Community garden

Hear from Angela about August at Buzz Community Garden!

A Change for Me, and New September Dates

My role at Buzz is moving to fully voluntary, so I won’t be running a session every Sunday from now on. The garden isn’t going anywhere, and neither am I, sessions are just moving to set dates. Keep an eye on Love Lockleaze on Facebook or the posters in the Hub window for each month’s dates. September’s are:

  • Sunday 6th September
  • Sunday 13th September
  • Sunday 27th September

What Grew in August

  • 6kg of greengages, up from 2kg in July
  • Another strong round of shallots, plus the main crop potatoes in, a great potato year!
  • Tomatoes planted out and loving the heat, now getting properly pruned thanks to Henry, our RHS-qualified gardener, who taught us the right way to pinch out side shoots this month
  • Courgettes, squash and cucumbers, after months of sulking, have all finally taken off, the cucumbers especially, with all this rain. We’ve got more than we can eat, so come and take some home; ask us about our pickle recipe, or the (surprisingly good) cucumber ice cream.

Perennial Vegetables Wanted

We’re building up our perennial beds and would love donations of rhubarb crowns, globe or Jerusalem artichokes, asparagus crowns, strawberry runners, perennial herbs, or perennial kale bring any along to a September session.

Thank you for being part of Buzz, whether that’s growing with us, taking home a cucumber, or just following along.
