The Stoke Park Project is a collaboration between Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, Bristol City Council and Steve England Outdoor Learning.
We are working together to promote community conversations about your heritage conservation priorities and which access improvements are needed for Stoke Park.
This weekend included our 16th event, the History of Purdown. Despite the weather we had 29 attend and we had a lot of fun learning about some of the historical aspects in this part of the park.
From Heath House to the Dower House we explored the fascinating connection of these two iconic buildings and found out about the families who lived there.

We visited the Gun Battery and spent time learning about its change of use over the years and we even assisted the Street Goat volunteer in freeing one of the friendly goats who had managed to get behind the fence.
We visited the bomb crater and heard all about the farms, orchards and woodlands that used to be here, following ancient pathways with unusual names.
“We’ve walked past here so many times yet never noticed! It’s so important for everyone to learn about the history”
We then made a fascinating discovery as we travelled along Sir Johns lane-an old clay pipe embedded in the wall!
“I cant believe we found one in the way just after Steve had shown some that were found here years ago!”
A fact filled, fantastic way to spend a wet winter morning in our wonderful Stoke Park.
