New Community Centre at Cameron Walk

Planning together for Lockleaze's newest community space.

In 2027, Lockleaze’s newest community space will be opening on Gainsborough Square, run by Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust.

The space will feature a hall, reception area, small rentable rooms, and a new community cafe and library!

Read all about it below- and please donate to make Lockleaze Community Cafe happen.

The Plans

Built on the site of the old Cameron Centre, the new space ensures multiple rooms are available to our community for classes, meetings and celebrations.

This community space sees the exciting addition of a space suitable for a community cafe and a small library. The new café will be open throughout the week with a healthy and affordable menu. It will be a warm and welcoming space to connect and relax throughout the seasons – like a community living room. Read more about the cafe and donate.

We are very happy to bring a library back to Lockleaze, working with Bristol Libraries in an innovative community-led model. While we’ve maintained a bare bones library service, the loss of physical facilities was a real frustration. The constant pressure from our community has made it possible to restore this vital service.

The Our Lockleaze Community Plan 2026-31 made it clear that the Lockleaze community want more spaces for togetherness and for local amenities to be built alongside housing. We are really excited to be making this happen- be part of it by donating to the cafe fundraiser, or sharing your ideas below!

Current floorplan- maybe subject to slight changes!

Virtual Suggestion Box

We’re still taking ideas and suggestions to create the community centre and cafe of Lockleaze’s dreams. Put your ideas for what the spaces should be used for in the box below, or the physical box in the Hub.

If you’d like to have a longer conversation, please contact info@lockleazent.co.uk.

Housing

The development contains 37 social housing units, mainly one and two bedroom flats, which should be completed and listed on HomeChoice by Easter 2027.

As these flats are social housing in Lockleaze, they fall under the Lockleaze Local Lettings Policy which means that up to 50% are designated for people with a connection to Lockleaze. Find out about the eligibility criteria and how to make sure you are counted under the LLP at the link above.
