We are really pleased to be underway making plans for nature with 4 new streets with large greenspaces in Lockleaze.
First, as always was finding a resident on each street that wanted to get involved and transform their the greenspace on their street for nature. They become our Street Champion. Together, we then knock on every door on the street, inviting all the neighbours who live around the greenspace to come to a community meeting where we can make the plan together.
We held 3 of these meetings this spring / early summer, on Nash Drive, Morris Road (in front of Danby House), and at Orpen Gardens. The meeting on Dovercourt Road Greenspace happened last year, but the plan was delayed because of the council doing their own work for nature on this site. These were all well attended, with nearly 50 residents attending all together. Exciting plans made for nature including wildflower areas, bulb plantings, new fruit trees, fruit bushes, and even ponds, and sensory gardens.
These plans will now be submitted to Bristol City Council, and hopefully we will be able to start work with residents this autumn! They will form part of Bristol City Council’s pilot of their “Green Permit” system, which will allow residents across Bristol to improve their street greenspaces for nature.
