This month’s catch up from Mel our CEO, who celebrates the launch of the new Our Lockleaze Community Plan.
Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust (LNT) are delighted to bring you the new Our Lockleaze Community Plan 2026-30.
If you live here, you’ll know that Lockleaze is one of the hidden gems of Bristol, the fourth most diverse ward in the city with a working class community that is proud of where we live. As a council housing estate built in the 1950s/60s we have challenges around housing, health and hardship. But Lockleaze is a fantastic, green place and this plan reflects how we all feel about it – We Love Lockleaze.
What is a Community Plan?
Community Plans are designed to listen to the residents of an area, so that they can have their say in what goes on locally, speaking truth to power.
LNT, along with our fantastic local partners (see below), spent six months speaking to people across our community. We engaged more than 1,000 people directly with more than 200 households completing the survey and hundreds of informal conversations, shared meals and events over 2025. As far as possible we’ve aimed to capture the voice, concerns and priorities of our community, just as we did in the first Our Lockleaze Community Plan 2019-24.
Back in 2019 – before the Covid-19 Pandemic, before the cost of living crisis – the Our Lockleaze Community Plan set out local people’s concerns and hopes for our community. At that time, people’s key asks were very clear. By far the most pressing need was for easily available and affordable good quality housing; this was followed by things for young people; places for togetherness and socialising, better availability of jobs and skills, and protection of our local green spaces.
That plan has guided local actions ever since, ensuring that we are truly reflecting the priorities of our community here in Lockleaze.
What’s in the new Community Plan?
- The new plan sets out what actions were undertaken after that first Community Plan back in 2019. Change has already happened because together with local organisations, the people of Lockleaze identified priorities and took action.
- The plan then sets out what matters to our Lockleaze community; their priorities and what they want to see change.
- And then, crucially, we’ve set out some key actions, and who is responsible for them. Because once you have a plan, you need to act on it.

- Better Housing – good quality, local, affordable and available.
- A Complete Neighbourhood – build services alongside housing
- Places for Togetherness
- Safer and Cleaner Streets
- Support for Young People
- Local Arts and Culture
- Protect our Green Spaces and Nature
What Happens Next?
Lockleaze had a lot to say – and we hope you enjoy reading it. The responses to our 2025-26 survey have given us a blueprint for what people want to see happen in Lockleaze and Bristol in the next five years.
Lockleaze has a strong network of community organisations working across Lockleaze, who are committed to supporting the changes that our community have voiced in this plan. Over the next five years (2026-30) local organisations will be working together with our community to co-create an even stronger Lockleaze.
They include:
Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust (LNT); Ebenezer Church; Fairfield High School; Filton Avenue Primary School; Filton Avenue Nursery School; Glenfrome Primary School; Horfield Health Centre; Little Foxes Forest School; Lockleaze Sports Centre; North Bristol Advice Centre; North Bristol and South Glos Foodbank; Scout Groups the 209th Scouts (Cotman Walk) and 1st Muslim Scouts (Muller Road); Shahporan Mosque; St Mary’s and St James Church; Stoke Park Primary; Trinity Academy; The Old Library; The Vench.
And of course we will also be working with our vital city-wide partners such as Bristol City Council, the West of England Combined Authority, local universities and the NHS.
We know we have all the expertise, skills and talents we need right here in Lockleaze to create real change. We will use this Our Lockleaze Community Plan to find funding, start new projects, campaigns, groups and activities, and bring everyone together to grow community power. That means making sure everyone in our diverse community is represented and heard – and feels that they belong.
