It’s been a great start to the year!
Really Wild Wednesdays have got off to a flying start. We are out and about every couple of weeks on a Wednesday afternoon, moving from site to site across Lockleaze. Volunteers are able to come to just one session, or come with us every time- we have a WhatsApp group for you to stay up to date. Get in touch if you want to come along!
Together, we have freed some trees we planted at the Sports Centre from brambles, dug a pond in the new Bonnington Gardens, and scythed our wonderful meadows by Concorde way at the Sports Centre. The new regular time is proving popular, and we are pleased to be able to be a bit more predictable in our movements, so people can rely on us a bit more.
On the last Saturday in February, we revisited the garden behind the new flats on Constable Road, to plant 19 trees with residents there. We put in 3 apple trees, 2 rowan trees, 2 holly, a maple and a bird cherry to create an orchard woodland at the top of the garden, and then added 3 holly, 4 hazel and 6 elder trees into the hedge row we planted last year.
We also had our first Really Wild Social- this is what we called Lockleaze Nature Network previously – residents came together to do share food, hear updates, and do nature connection crafts with our wonderful Avon Wildlife Trust Champion, Jess. We’re super looking forward to hosting more social events this year, including Lockleaze Climate & Nature Festival on 6th June!
