As part of our Lockleaze Together project we were delighted to welcome BBC Bristol’s Wake Up Call- spreading good news, bringing residents together and creating opportunities to connect and contribute.

What a fantastic turnout for the Wake Up Call last week! It was the first of four live broadcasts about preventative health, and Lockleaze were super excited to welcome Joe Sims and the fantastic team from BBC Radio Bristol.
It was exciting that so many people wanted to contribute, including Sue who read a heartwarming poem, our youngest contributor Bayley, and everyone who tuned in to listen. Lockeaze won the quiz that morning and shared our views about the UK eurovision entry. We were even joined by celebrity guest Mark Millar of DIY SOS.

We welcomed loads of local legends with a focus on learning, health, mental health and wellbeing. We had a demo from Darren from Bristol North Aikido, a kickabout with Rob from St Mary and St James and a visit to Buzz Community Garden. We also chatted with Steve England, a Stoke Park ranger, Hayley from Play Patch, members of the Blue Plaque campaign to honour Rev Earnest Marvin, Sanjay at Premier Lockleaze, green social prescribers, and more.
On the show we also heard memories from local residents recorded at Hubbub Cafe, and shared the good news about free holiday bus travel for 5-15s being confirmed til 2029.

Over 100 residents attended and joined in the fun, with over 30 completing free health checks, with the NHS roadshow team. Special thanks to Sirona health care and their Equity and Inclusion and Long Covid teams, Bristol Mind, and WorkWell for joining us so early.

If you missed the health checks please do come to see CAAFI Health at the Hub on 3rd June from 10am – 3pm. Get your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and more checked for free!

Thanks everyone for coming especially the Radio Bristol team, and to you for listening. If you missed it you can catch up to the show for a couple of weeks on BBC Sounds here.
