After seeing too many ambitious community-led housing schemes undermined by partnerships with larger existing housing associations, Ecomotive and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust are exploring the opportunity to apply for funding to create tenant-led housing management in Bristol and the South West.
This means developing a way for housing cooperatives to stay in control of housing decisions, while also engaging with external housing management services to ensure they can both operate to a high standard, and secure/maintain ‘Registered Provider of Social Housing’ status.
In Lockleaze specifically, Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust have recently secured planning permission for 5 social rented homes on a former garages site in Lockleaze, working with Ecomotive. However, due to the small size of the scheme, we have had difficulty securing a housing association to deliver it appropriately.
Ecomotive would like to invite existing and prospective social housing tenants into a co-design process to shape and guide their ideas, and, if the bid was successful, help them explore the feasibility of a tenant-led housing management service for the South West.
If you’d like to get involved or for more info, complete the survey here ASAP to:
- Share your ideas and experience
- Register to comment on drafts of the bid to the Social Housing Innovation Fund before submission (9th January 2026) by phone or email
- If we are successful, register to join a co-design panel for the work itself in 2026.
Any other questions, thoughts, ideas or suggestions please get in touch with tom@ecomotive.org or WhatsApp +447769970909. (Tom is currently abroad so a regular phone call is likely to cost a lot).
Please fill out the form ASAP so that we have time to process the responses and work on the bid over the Christmas period. Thank you!!
